This absolutely beautiful rare Chinese 19th Century embroidered conversational textile has a red colored background with four ceremonial figures in costume, most likely in a dance ritual. There are two women and two men. The women are holding fens and a musical instrument with embroidered floral costumes. The men are both holding swords, also in costumes. The colors are in teal, navy, white, black, tan rose and pink.
63 inches in width by 37 inches in length
Fair to good - This is an incredible early embroidered large piece, there is "a lot of wear and tear". Some of the embroidered detail on the faces have been worn off, which somehow makes them more interesting! There are many other areas where the embroidery is quite worn away, definitely along the bottom of the piece, as well as throughout. There is metallic embroidery on the left hand side which somewhat unraveling. There is a blue linen backing on the back of the fabric. There appears to be rust marks - maybe from nails? But everything considered, this is an amazing rare embroidery worth framing!
